A spacious free house facing the village green, run by Paul and Katherine (back by popular demand!). Check out the fruit machines and the games room with darts and pool table. The pub features two real fires and has sports TV. Food served lunchtime and evenings. Quiz night Sunday. Monday evenings often see Morris dancers drinking after practice! Ample parking space available, or take bus 144.

A delightful pub in a rural setting, just past the eastern edge of the village. The cosy licensed area was recently expanded; it consists of two small, quiet rooms, each festooned with an eclectic selection of memorabilia. Opening hours are limited, so double-check that your travel times fit (bus 144 stops outside). Beer festivals are held twice a year in a marquee in the huge garden: look on the Reading CAMRA website for details.

Off the beaten track, a mile?s walk from bus 126, 128, 129, you?ll have to make an effort to seek out this large rural pub. It is located next to the ford across the River Loddon, on the road to Hurst (check water depth/flow before crossing!). The pub hosts all kinds of family events, from ferret racing to Morris dancing. Try the food (served lunchtimes and evenings) as well as the beer.

Located to west of the village, the Waggon combines a good mix of country pub ambience (flagstone floor, low wooden beamed ceiling, big garden with an aviary and Wendy house) and a modern outlook. Darts and crib available to play. Hearty cooked food is served lunchtimes and evenings. A big screen is installed for sports events and ample parking is available. Bus 126, 128, 129.

In early 2009, with both village pubs closed, the future looked bleak ? so villagers banded together to buy the White Hart, now refurbished as the Shurlock Inn! The exposed beams date from c.1650, but ancient meets modern in a clean bright interior. A strong emphasis on quality food, fine wine and real ale. Bus 4 from Maidenhead (daytime).

A friendly pub on the edge of the village, with beamed ceilings and a large rural garden. Food is available lunchtimes and evenings, with a separate dining area. Occasional live music nights. Following the closure of the local Post Office, a PO counter is open in the pub on Wed lunchtimes, adding to the community spirit and helping keep the village alive. Bus 4 from Maidenhead (daytime).

Is it a pub? A restaurant? A conference centre? A hotel? It's all those and more, and all built around a comfortable wood panelled lounge! David the manager is passionate about his beer; the range varies, but always includes at least one from a local brewery, plus something dark. Eat in the bar or the restaurant: both have a good selection. Bus 127 from Reading (Sat only), or 239 from Maidenhead (Mon/Wed/Fri). Ample parking.
